About this yard

Pioneer Equestrian Coaching is an ABRS+ approved riding school based at a private yard in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, in the Cotswolds. Run by Olivia Pollard, Pioneer is one of only two Mary Wanless Ride With Your Mind accredited schools in the UK, using biomechanics-based techniques to improve rider posture, body awareness and core stability. Lessons are predominantly one-to-one to allow proper attention to detail, with established pupils sometimes coached two at a time. Suitable for everyone from complete beginners to experienced riders looking to refine technique, including nervous returning riders. Facilities include an outdoor arena, gallops, lunge pen, horse walker and access to 400 acres of hacking. Equine-facilitated therapy and learning also offered.

What to wear

Riding helmet
Hire available

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.

Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
