Thompson House Equestrian Centre
About this yard
Thompson House Equestrian Centre is set on 84 acres of open countryside at Standish near Wigan, operating as a BHS Approved Centre with strong links to community and disability provision through a partnership with the My Life charity. The centre delivers accessible riding for scouts, schools, nurseries, colleges, and community groups alongside individual riders. Riding lessons are available from beginner level upwards, with morning and afternoon pony sessions for children covering riding, grooming, pony care, and pony games. Pony Activity Days cater for groups of all sizes, and the indoor and outdoor floodlit arenas are available for hourly hire and block bookings for camps, clinics, shows, and events. RDA sessions and an accessible site design make genuine inclusion central to the offer, and the Stable Door cafe rounds out the visitor experience.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
