How prices vary

Group lessons are usually the most affordable; expect them to start around £17 per rider for half-hour sessions. Private one-to-one tuition with a senior instructor sits at the upper end, where prices of £150 or more reflect both lesson length and instructor seniority.

Hacks (off-yard rides on horseback through countryside) are priced separately to arena lessons in most yards, and tend to scale with duration: a 30-minute hack costs less than a half-day trail ride. Multi-day camps and residential courses are also outside the standard hourly framework.

We always recommend confirming the current rate directly with the yard before booking, since published prices can lag actual rates and many yards run promotional offers for new riders or specific time slots.

Methodology

Saddl maintains a public directory of UK equestrian venues. The figures on this page draw from published lesson prices submitted by yards directly or sourced from their public-facing material. Each price is the yard's lowest published lesson rate. Median is reported in preference to mean because the distribution is right-skewed by premium private lessons and full-day courses.

Sample size is 15 of 40 verified yards in Greater London (38% pricing coverage). Counties with fewer than three priced yards are excluded so that any quoted average remains meaningful.
