About this yard

Swan Lane Equestrian Centre is an ABRS+ approved riding school and livery yard in Outlane, on the outskirts of Huddersfield, 5 minutes from junction 24 of the M62. The centre offers lessons for all ages and abilities from age 2 upward, alongside tailored livery packages and horsebox hire. Facilities include outdoor and indoor arenas, a showjumping course, and cross-country course with access to open countryside hacking.

Note: the centre is currently fully booked and operating a waiting list for new riders. Register on their website to be notified when places become available.

When are you open?
Monday closed. Tuesday to Thursday 9am–7:30pm. Friday closed. Saturday and Sunday 8am–5pm.
What age do you teach from?
Riders aged 2 and upwards.
What is your weight limit?
12.5 stone (79 kg).
What equipment is needed?
Flexible trousers such as leggings or jogging bottoms, long sleeves, boots with a hard sole and small heel such as wellies or walking boots, and gloves. Hats can be hired and must be booked with the lesson.
What do you offer?
Lessons, hacks and activities for riders aged 2 and upwards, tailor-made livery packages, and self-drive horsebox hire.
What is your cancellation policy?
48 hours notice required to cancel or change a booking, or you receive a credit note to rebook. 8 hours notice in the event of illness, and the lesson can be rebooked without penalty.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.

Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
