Founded in 2017 by Freedom Zampaladus, The Urban Equestrian Academy is a registered social enterprise working to widen participation in equestrianism for young people facing barriers of cost, geography, and access. The academy focuses particularly on young people from ethnic minority backgrounds and urban communities, running structured sessions at partner riding centres across Leicestershire with a Pony Club-style format. Programmes cover an unusually ambitious range of disciplines, show jumping, polo, dressage, horse racing, and eventing, alongside Equine Assisted Learning sessions that use the horse relationship to build confidence and resilience. Weekly sessions run during term time for riders aged 6–12, with additional programmes for teenagers and adults. As a social enterprise operating through approved partner facilities rather than a fixed yard, it is a distinctive and purpose-driven presence in the Leicestershire equestrian community.
